How to Measure for Hardware

The following are examples of the most commonly used measurements for sizing hardware.

Center:  That is the distance from the center of one mounting hole on your piece of furniture to the center of the other.

Back Plate:  The size(s) of the part that rests directly on the surface of the piece of furniture.  There are two different kinds of back plates.  Below are examples of each.

The measurements of a single back plate are given in height and width.

Bail:  The bail is the portion of a pull that you grab onto to open the drawer/door.  In most cases, they are are measured by their height and width.

Drop: For single post pulls, the 'drop' measurement is often used.  It is the measurement of the portion of the pull that dangles or drops in the front.  Again, it is the potion of the hardware that you would grab to open the drawer/door.  It is given in height and width.  Please note that the width measurement reflects the widest portion of the piece.
