Steel Trunk Nails available in four sizes. Each of the four sizes has a 1/4" diameter head.
These tacks can be pounded straight in like normal nail or can be pounded through the side of the trunk and then bent at a 90 degree angle or more.
Sold in 1/4 pound bags, the length of nail, and their corresponding approximate quantities are below.
* The tacks are steel in color so are a medium to dark grey. The picture is darker than the current stock. Our favorite way to blacken to nail heads is to color them with a sharpie after they have been attached to the trunk.
If you have an antique trunk that hasn't been restored or repaired, you will find that it has been constructed using nails that are driven through the trunk wall and then bent over or 'curled; into the body of the trunk's interior. To accomplish this, a trunk nail was pounded part way through the trunk wall and a piece of metal was placed on the inside of the trunk that was used to bend or curled as it was pounded through. We have found that antique cast irons work well for the purpose.
